New Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 this fall

A brand new version of the classic Tony Hawk’s pro skater games will be released in September.

13th game in the Tony Hawk sequel, will take Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater back to its origin. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, will be much like the old classic games in terms of gameplay, and will include the create-a-park-feature, which we haven’t seen since American Wasteland in addition to the create-a-skater-feature. Also this game will have an online feature. The game is said by Wikipedia to include the following pro skaters:

– Lizzie Armanto
– Leticia Bufoni
– Chris Cole
– David Gonzalez
– Riley Hawk
– Tony Hawk
– Aaron Homoki
– Nyjah Huston
– Andrew Reynolds
– Ishod Wair

The game will be released for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox one on September 29, 2015 in North America and October 2nd 2015 in Europe. Even though I can’t wait to see this new version of one of my favorite childhood games, there are several reasons to be concerned:

First of all, the game is no longer developed by Neversoft (Pro Skater to Proving Ground), but by Robomodo who developed the later versions like Ride, Shred (the one that game with a plastic skateboard), and THPS HD none of which have been any great success. With this in mind, you might think that the game will not be recapturing the glory days of THPS games, and maybe even worse than the old PlayStation 1 games.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is said to include 9 levels. I would say that it is not much, especially when two of them are The Warehouse from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and Underground 2 and The School from Pro Skater 2, Underground and Pro Skater HD. That leaves us with only 7 new levels. I would expect a few more than that, so let’s hope that the online function allows downloading new levels.

The online multi-player part sounds really promising. I always loved playing H.O.R.S.E. or many of the other head to head games. This could even be great if you could play 8 players for the highest score in a given amount of time. Also the other skaters in the level will not be random bots, but actual people skating around in the same level. But that is in fact what also has got to mean troubles. If you can actually collide with other skaters (as in the previous games), and 20 people in the same level going for the same goals, you will eventually smash into each other, breaking ones line or combo. This also sounds like it’s going to be target for trolling.

Last, but not least, robomodo have not yet decided on whether or not to add a local multi-player function, which totally baffles me. Not everybody have Xbox Live or PlayStation Plus.

Let’s hope Robomodo gets it right this time. See more at the official Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 website
