Official Mirror’s Edge 2 Title Have Been Announced

Dice, the developer of Mirror’s Edge, have announced that the title for Mirror’s Edge 2 will be Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.

Two years ago it was revealed that DICE was making another Mirror’s Edge. The second game in the series will not be a sequel, but will be a stand alone game, that honors the first game pushing the boundaries of first person movement says Sara Janson, Senior Producer.

“Mirror’s Edge has always had a special place in the hearts of all of us at DICE. The first game had a lot of promise. It was unlike anything else in terms of the gameplay and style — it had a unique soul. But as much as we loved that game, we knew it could be more. So that’s what we have set out to do as we introduce Mirror’s Edge to a new generation.”

The plot will be taking place before the first game, and actually serve as a prequel, and will focus on the past life of the character, Faith. We know that Faiths mother was killed in a protest against the regime 18 years prior to the events in the first game, and it is likely that the second game will tell us more about what happened in between.
It appears that the game will take place in the same city, but with a more open world environment. Rumors suggest, that the game will also include an online co-op and time trial multi-player feature.
The game has its focus on the movement, as Faith is a runner (inspired by freerunning and parkour), which was something unique for the game. I personally (as a freerunner) was impressed the time trials and the running part, and enjoyed the shooting and fighting less. However, it was confirmed at the E3 2013, that even though the conceptual prototype seemed to highlight fighting, the game will continue its focus on parkour, and will add new abilities.

The game was first teased at E3 2013, and will be presented at E3 2015 next week. The game is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One in early 2016.
